Steve Hayden is a longtime Covington resident, community advocate, and former member of the Covington Board of Commissioners.

Hayden moved to Covington in 2012 following a nearly five decade career in information technology, systems analysis, and project management spanning a variety of industries and organizations. He holds a degree in economics from the University of Kentucky.

Since making Covington his home, Hayden has been extensively involved in neighborhood and civic organizations. He has served for more than a decade on the executive committee of the Historic Licking Riverside Civic Association, including four years as treasurer. He also spent five years as chair and vice chair of the Covington Neighborhood Collaborative and more than eight years as a member of the Devou Park Advisory Committee.

His civic involvement has also included helping establish pollinator gardens throughout Covington as part of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, serving on the 2019 citizen task force that helped establish the vision for a new City Hall, and participating in the development of Covington’s Neighborhood Development Code, particularly its historic-preservation provisions.

In 2023, Hayden was selected from a field of over two dozen applicants to fill a vacancy on the Covington Board of Commissioners. He was sworn into office in September 2023 and served through the end of 2024. During his tenure, he participated in decisions involving City operations, neighborhood issues, development, infrastructure, and other matters before the Board.

Hayden remained engaged in City affairs after leaving the Commission and filed in January 2026 as a candidate for the new Covington City Council, which will take office under the City’s new form of government in 2027. His publicly announced campaign priorities include continued economic growth, expansion of workforce housing, support for Covington neighborhoods, and efficient and responsive City services.
